The Qatar national football team has joined the list of Arab teams that have suffered heavy defeats in the history of the World Cup, after losing 0-6 to Canada. The team collapsed after two of its players were sent off, suffering a big defeat that reduced their chances of qualifying from Group B to the round of 32, despite earning their first point in history with a 1-1 draw against Switzerland in the opening round. However, Qatar's defeat to Canada is not the heaviest in Arab history, as it ranks second in this negative list. The Saudi national team tops the list after suffering a famous 0-8 defeat to Germany in the 2002 World Cup. The Green Falcons come in third with their 0-5 loss to Russia in 2018, noting that the European team was the host of that edition. There are four Arab defeats in World Cup history with a four-goal difference, the latest being Tunisia's 1-5 loss to Sweden in the current edition, as well as the UAE's loss to Germany with the same score in the 1990 World Cup. The Saudi national team also lost 0-4 to Ukraine in 2006 and France in 1998. Julen Lopetegui, Qatar's coach, has become the first Spanish coach in World Cup history to suffer a six-goal defeat, according to Opta. Qatar will face the Netherlands in the next round, which beat Switzerland 2-0 in the same group. The Qatar national team will have to win the next match to improve their chances of qualifying for the round of 32.
