The Historic Victory Night in Switzerland
On July 29, 2005, Egypt's national team secured a commanding victory over the Qatari team in the Geneva International Friendly Tournament. The match ended with a score of five goals to zero for the Egyptian side.
The Pharaohs started off strong but waited until the second half before adding their first goals. Mohamed Abou Tarek scored the first goal at the 60th minute, while Assam Hassini added his in the 66th minute.
Egypt's pressure continued as Omr Zaki netted the third goal at 72 minutes, then Abou Tarek returned to add a fourth in the 85th minute before Omr Zaki sealed the fifth and final goal in the 89th minute.
Wave of Defeat and Discipline
However, dreams of continued success didn’t end with victory over Qatar. The Egyptians faced competition from the UAE in the final round where a penalty shootout ensued with the score tied to zero after regular time.
Egyptian penalties were scored by Husni Abd Elrahman, Abdelhamid Ali, Othman Metyab, Omr Zaki, and Wael Gomaa while for the UAE it was Youssef Abdelaziz, Nour Makroob, Ezzelddin Shalaby and Ali Huweihibi. Ismail Metwally missed his penalty.
